U.S. Puts India And Thailand On Piracy Watch List For Offering Cheaper Aids Drugs
By Jonathan | April 27, 2008So The U.S. government considers the selfish greed of it’s drug companies to be more important that the health of the world’s citizens. What other conclusion can one draw when you see India and Thailand included on a Piracy watch list, and threatened with possible economic sanctions for their policies of providing generic versions of patented drugs to the severely ill?
Of course this kind of attitude should come as no surprise in a country where a politician can not get elected without the financial support of Big Pharma. It’s a broken political system when the rights of multinational corporations trump those of the average citizen. The U.S. has even criticized Canada for allowing the sale of reasonably priced generic drugs, while allowing countless American citizens to go completely bankrupt and lose everything because they have the misfortune of getting cancer.
Nothing will change if the Democrats win, they are just as dependent on corporate money. Until American politicians get brave and pass some real campaign finance reform and eliminate corporate donations to political campaigns entirely, none of this will ever change,
