You loved before you knew me
And I returned in kind
You imagined I was perfect
But it was in your mind
With widely opened hearts
We charged ahead with hope
But when reality confronted us
We sadly couldn’t cope
I left when I still loved you
I didn’t have a choice
With regrets I hadn’t realized
And hurts I never voiced
If we had known the future
When we were in the past
We might have chosen differently
And made the present last

Nice poem. That really sums up some of the emotions of someone who got a little crushed. good luck in the future.
Like they say it better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all. Your poem is every emotional and well written.
I think anyone who has ever had their heart broken can relate to this poem. Thanks for sharing.
There is much emotion and feeling in this poem. I think anyone who has gone through this painful process can relate.
Great poem Jonathan. Writing, and poetry in particular, is a beautiful way to express emotional experience and you do it beautifully.
Going through a tough break up is never an easy thing. The best thing to do is take time for yourself and focus on what you like and how you can improve yourself.
Oh, that was very touching. Such a lovely poem, I like it. What was your inspiration in writing this one?
Well it wasn’t happy I can tell you that. :)
Very thought provoking and a little too close for comfort.
