A couple of months ago former BC Premier, and current federal MP Ujall Dosanjh was in the spotlight as a guest on The Colbert Report, during the show’s visit to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Games.

Today Mr. Dosanjh is in the spotlight because his life has been threatened, for telling the truth.

As Canadians we pride ourselves in being tolerant people. We open our doors to the world, lay out the welcome mat, and have created a remarkable nation where people of all races, nationalities and cultures are entitled to live as equals, largely free from persecution and prejudice.

This tolerance is now backfiring.

In Quebec Jewish teachers were actually reprimanded after complaining that their Muslim students were disrespecting them and making anti-semitic comments in class.

Native groups terrorize communities and occupy entire subdivisions, ruining the lives of the people who own the land, with the blessing of the police and government.

And now the latest controversy is the apparent rise of Sikh extremism in this country, particularly it seems in Surrey, BC, where much of the population is Sikh. During the recent Sikh parade, a float was entered the celebrated the perpetrators of the infamous Air India bombing, and other terrorists as martyrs and heroes.

This is happening right now, In Canada! If that doesn’t scare you, it should!

What is most alarming about these situations is that the government does not want to do anything about it, out of fear of being labelled “intolerant”, or worse, racist. The Sikhs in Surrey form a powerful voting bloc as well, and that power will only grow stronger.

This has nothing to do with race, religion or ethnicity. This is about whether in this country we are willing to be tolerant of hatred, and violence, and yes, murder, for the sake of being politically correct.

In Canada, our tolerance is both our greatest strength, and our greatest weakness. Increasingly it is becoming our weakness. If we do not give our heads a shake now, we will see domestic terrorism as a reality.

Ujall Dosanjh has had the guts to tell the truth. He as brought attention to a growing problem facing our country. He was spoken out against his own ethnic group. He has put the love of his adopted country of Canada, and his home, above his own personal interests.

In return he has received death threats. I suppose that proves him right.

Do you as a Canadian, or a citizen of the world think this is okay?
