Bighorn Sheep in Jasper National Park

As you drive through Jasper or Banff National Parks, you are almost certain to run into a herd or two of bighorn sheep. These are about the friendliest wild animals you will ever come across. I was literally mobbed by them, and they are quite happy to let you pet them as they lick the salt from your skin. They even tried to climb right into our vehicle!

Advice from those in the know: during mating season (October to January) all that “friendly” stuff pretty much goes out the window and you’d be wise not to get too close to these fellows (and ladies).
