I captured this guy as he was reviewing the photos he had just taken on his iPhone of the fog that was blanketing English Bay in Vancouver.

It’s a bit of a shame, in my opinion, but there’s no denying that the smartphone has taken the place of the compact camera for nearly everyone at this point. This means there’s an entire generation of people who will never take a photo that isn’t hopelessly smudgy from the aggressive noise reduction needed for tiny sensors. But there’s good enough for posting in Facebook and Instagram I guess.

On the plus side it means that camera makers have had to shift their focus to making high end “professional” compact cameras instead, which is a welcome change.
